For the second straight volleyball match, the Western Lady Indians sustained momentum in a battle to the end and picked up a 3-2 win over their opponent.
Traveling to Paint Valley Monday evening, the Lady Indians defeated the Lady Bearcats 3-2 (25-21, 25-22, 24-26, 18-25, 15-10). That triumph is Western’s fourth in a row, as the Lady Indians improved to 4-2 overall. Western is also 2-1 in five-set matches this year after winning Thursday over Clay.
Leading the charge statistically in the Paint Valley win was Western senior Carigan Haggy, who had 22 kills, 37 digs, two assists and was 18-for-18 serving with one ace. Senior Chelsey Penwell produced 25 digs, seven kills and 15 assists.
Junior Paige Davis led in assists with 17, adding a kill and eight digs. She also served a perfect 17-for-17 with three aces. Jadah Pearson and Kenzi Ferneau shared a block. Pearson had four kills, while Ferneau added three. Ferneau also had 22 digs and added seven assists.
Junior Mea Henderson had seven kills, served 16-for-17 and had 16 digs. Junior Brooklyn Leedy also had double digits in digs with 19. Senior Chloe Legg added five digs and four kills.
Looking back at Western’s 3-2 win (25-20, 14-25, 23-25, 31-29, 15-7) over Clay on Thursday, Sept. 5, the Lady Indians had plenty of statistics to report.
Carigan Haggy and Mea Henderson led the way on the net, adding 18 and 14 kills, respectively. Haggy had a strong day in digs with 56, followed by Kenzi Ferneau (37), Chelsey Penwell (28), Henderson (23), Brooklyn Leedy (20), Chloe Legg (10), Paige Davis (6) and Jadah Pearson (4). Ferneau and Pearson also had four kills each, while Davis and Legg each had one.
Penwell handed out 20 assists and added six digs. Davis provided 14 assists, Ferneau had five and Haggy produced three. Penwell also served 24-for-26 with a pair of aces to lead the way in that category. Haggy was 18-for-18 with two aces. Leedy was a perfect 12-for-12 in serve receive, while Davis was a perfect 8-for-8.
The Lady Indians jumped back into Southern Ohio Conference Division I play Tuesday night with a road match at Green. They will travel to Sciotoville East Thursday evening.
