The Community Action Committee (CAC) of Pike County Early Childhood Program has been awarded a five star Step Up To Quality rating for all five early learning locations in Pike County. These classrooms are located at the Piketon Community Action Agency, Eastern Primary, Western Local Elementary, Scioto Valley – Jasper Elementary, and the Early Childhood and Family Center.
Step Up To Quality is a voluntary five-star quality rating system administered by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) and the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) that recognizes and promotes learning and development programs that meet quality benchmarks over and above minimum health and safety licensing standards. The steps are based on national research identifying the program standards that lead to improved outcomes for children. These standards include:
• Lower child to staff ratios.
• Smaller group size of children.
• Higher staff education requirements.
• On-going specialized training.
• Improved workplace characteristics.
• Research based learning standards.
• Evidence that the program values families and community.
Star rated programs lay the foundation for children’s learning and development that build skills that are important for success in school and in life. The CAC Early Childhood Program is very proud of the accomplishment of achieving a 5 star rating and commends staff for fulfilling the numerous requirements to be recognized as one of the highest quality programs in the state of Ohio.
