PIKETON, OH—A new year will soon open a new chapter for Fluor-BWXT Portsmouth employee Denise Austin. After 43 years at the Portsmouth site, Austin has decided she is ready for retirement. On Thursday, Jan. 12, she said goodbye to the workload and hello to more time exploring the life she has carved out for herself.
“It’s really been good and I’ve met a lot of people; they’re your lifetime friends,” Austin said.
Austin is looking forward to traveling, becoming more involved in church activities, and generally to just live life. FBP President and CEO Greg Wilkett congratulated and presented her with a commemorative plaque.
“We wish Denise the very best in retirement,” Wilkett said. “Her contributions to the site have been significant, as people have relied on her for her expertise.”
At 21, Austin started working for Goodyear in the mailroom and later transitioned to the records vault and Engineering Records, Document Control and Performance Documents.
A retirement celebration was held at the site in her honor.
