Now in its seventh season Dancing With our Stars has been the most successful fundraising event for the Ohio River Valley American Red Cross and next year’s event promises an exciting seventh season but with a new format.
The annual show kicks off in a different format as well with “Stand Up for the Stars,” an evening filled with laughter and the introduction of the cast of the 2019 Dancing With our Stars – All Star Revue. Scheduled for Nov. 2 at the SOMC Friends Community Center, “Stand Up for the Stars” is presented by the 2019 All Star cast and sponsored by Glockner Enterprises, Impressive Studios, Neal Hatcher Real Estate, Fluor BWXT Portsmouth and Southern Ohio Medical Center with all proceeds benefitting the local Red Cross programs. Vicky Hatcher is serving as event coordinator and is being assisted by Mary Arnzen, Leanne Johnson, Amanda Lewis , Kevin Hoops and Henry Allen.
The show’s headliner is Henry Allen, one of the top young rising comedians in the Midwest. Working regularly at the Funny Bone Comedy Clubs he has opened for comedians from Netflix, HBO, Comedy Central, Showtime, Saturday Night Live, and America’s Got Talent. His hometown being Minford, he would love for you to come to the show. Just please, please...please. He’s begging you, just be quiet.
Joining Allen are comedians Bobbie Dodds, Kenny Mock and Jay Snyder.
Dodds is the winner of the 2016 Columbus Funny Bone talent search competition and is a favorite at comedy clubs like the Columbus Funny Bone, Toledo Funny Bone, Go Bananas, and Wiley’s Comedy Joint. Bobbie has performed alongside comedy greats such as Ron White, Mike Epps, Mark Curry, Aries Spears, and Sinbad. Bobbie’s unique, high-energy comedy is the reason he is making a big name for himself in the comedy world. Mock can be seen regularly at comedy clubs across the country. His clean and well put together style has gotten him attention from the biggest names in comedy.
Between performing in theaters and on cruise ships, Kenny is truly a rising star. Snyder is unlike anything you’ve ever seen. His laid-back and conversational style will literally bring you to tears. Arguably the most talented comedian to ever come out of Ohio (including Dave Chappell), Jay gets praise from iconic comics like Bert Kreisher, saying he is one of the best in the country.
The three comedians will critique and judge local friends of the Red Cross trying their hand as “stand up stars”. Local “wanna-be” comedians include Jeremy Burnside, Kevin Hoops, Melanie Porter, Stephanie Schafer and Aaron Wright. All five contestants have been involved with the Red Cross Dancing With our Stars in many capacities from dancing to judging to keeping the cast in line. They are all looking forward to filling the room with laughter on Nov. 2.
The doors to the Friends Center “Comedy Club” open at 6:30 p.m. with light hors d’oeuvres provided by Market Street Café, Port City Pub, Patties and Pints, Fork and Finger Café, Hot Heads Burritos, Sonora Mexican Grill and Boneyfiddle Pie Factory. A photo booth provided by Impressive Studios will also be available for funny photos. Not only will guests be entertained with a comedy show when the curtains open at 7:30 p.m., but they will meet the cast of the 2019 Dancing With our Stars — All Star Revue. Tickets for the evening geared for adult audiences are $30 per person and include one beverage ticket, light hors d’oeuvres, cash bar and the show. Seating is limited and tickets may be purchased at Neal Hatcher Real Estate, 902 8th Street, or at the local Red Cross office at 1801 Robinson Avenue.
All proceeds support disaster prevention, preparation and relief, the life-saving training of first aid, CPR/AED classes, collection and testing of blood and blood products, support to military members serving around the globe and international programs.
