art show

Towards the end of this past school year Zahns Corner Middle School held its 2nd annual art show.

According to Samantha Walls, Zahns Corner art teacher, the show featured 300 pieces of student artwork on display. She said that this year a 5th and 6th grade band concert was added to the show thanks to Mr. Todd Peitz. Also this year a Middle School Awards Banquet was held with awards presented including honor roll (one or more grading period), perfect attendance (one or more grading period), math 24, student council, quiz bowl, spelling bee and science fair.

According to Walls, the art show was a success because of the following volunteers:

High School/Student Volunteers

Alexys Sharp — docent/greeter (2nd year helping)

Jamie Morris — docent/greeter

Ceci Rockwell — docent/greeter and clay center leader

Wyatt Lamerson — clay center leader

Avery Dixon — flextangle center leader

Madelynn Little — origami center leader

Layne Moorman and Kaitlyn Fout — fiber center leader

Bryce Coreno — art show photographer

Jenna Meier — resident working artist (2nd year helping)

Blake Cossaco — frame bouncer (2nd year helping)

Walls expressed special thanks to Candy Boggs and family for providing fresh-popped popcorn and water during the art show and Rural King of Waverly for providing free popcorn bags. According to Walls, working artist Jenna Meier completed a work of art on a large canvas during the show.

“We had a student volunteer Kelsey Boulay who did many face paintings,” Walls said. “We had a fan mail area where parents and fans of the student artist could write letters that would be “mailed” to them at school! We had a fiber station to make pom pom monster buddies run by Layne Moorman and Kaitlyn Fout. We had a clay station to create 3-D works run by Wyatt Lamerson and Ceci Rockwell. We had an origami bookmark station run by Madelynn Little. We also had a Flextangle Station run by Avery Dixon! We had a coloring plus station. We had a pop corn machine run by Candy Boggs, David Boggs, Eli Boggs, and Eden Boggs. We had an art show photographer, high school student Bryce Coreno.”

Walls also thanked business sponsors who made it possible to grant the award winners with a free frame on behalf of their sponsorship.

“I think this is so amazing because without theses sponsorships some of our students may never have had the opportunity to have their artwork framed and displayed,” Walls said. “I am so thankful these sponsors made an award sponsorship donation to show they cared and that they appreciated the students work enough to help purchase a frame for them. Thank you for making our students feel special and loved!”
