COLUMBUS, OH (Feb. 11, 2019) — Cassandra Thomas of Piketon was recently named one of Ohio Connections Academy’s (OCA) Star Students of the Month for February in recognition of her achievements and leadership in the virtual classroom.

Cassandra, a junior at the statewide online public charter school, was nominated by her Geometry teacher Jenny Tackett for her positive attitude and determination to succeed academically. As a Star Student, Cassandra will be presented a certificate recognizing her achievement and be profiled in Ohio Connections Academy’s student newsletter and on the school’s website.

Cassandra enrolled in Ohio Connections Academy at the beginning of this school year. Previously she had been homeschooled until her parents wanted her in an academic setting where she would be challenged, have access to teachers and a curriculum that would prepare her for college. Cassandra likes how OCA offers a good balance between the teacher support of a traditional school and the flexibility found with home schooling.

“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are proud to recognize students like Cassandra and the commitment they demonstrate to our school and their community,” said OCA Superintendent Marie Hanna. “Each of our Star Students are leaders in the classroom and demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to learning — they truly deserve this recognition.”

Each month OCA recognizes two students in each of the four grade bands for their achievements in and out of the classroom. The following Ohio Connections Academy students were also recognized as Star Students of the Month for February:

• Kallie Crouse, Senior, Mansfield

• Gene Moore III, 7th Grade, Dayton

• Logan Sliger, 8th Grade, Oakwood

• Tessa Brousek, 6th Grade, Brunswick

• Gabrielle McClain 4th Grade, Euclid

• Sam Brooks, 2nd Grade, New Paris
