Military Veterans Resource Center to host veterans career workshop

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (May 19, 2015) — Military Veterans Resource Center invites job-seeking veterans and spouses to attend a Veterans Career Workshop on Thursday, June 4. The workshop is free for participants and will take place at the Red Cross's Chillicothe office, located at 181 N. Bridge St. It will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lunch included."The career workshop is an opportunity for veterans to build their job search skills and practice translating their military accomplishments for civilian employers," said MVRC Executive Director Len Proper. "Many past participants have received interview invitations soon after completing the workshop."

    Police still searching for man who robbed Atomic Credit Union

    As of Saturday morning, the Waverly Police Department is still searching for the individual who robbed the Waverly Branch of the Atomic Credit Union with a gun on Friday.According to the Atomic Credit Union, its staff "did an amazing job handling the situation", and the credit union is providing photos of the subject from the credit union cameras via social media and asking the public for help in identifying the individual. The Atomic Credit Union is also asking the public to share the photos, which are on its Facebook page and also linked to the Atomic Credit Union's Twitter account. The time on the photos from the credit union's cameras indicates that the robbery occurred at about 5:39 p.m. on Friday.Anyone who has any leads or recognizes the individual, who was wearing a mask and an NYPD hat at the time of the robbery, is asked to contact the Waverly Police Department at 740-947-2179 immediately.

  • Residents indicted on drug-related charges

    Several area residents were indicted on drug-related charges by the April term of the Pike County Grand Jury.James Jones, 39, of Crace Lane, Piketon, was indicted on one count of illegal assembly (third-degree felony), one count of illegal manufacturing of drugs (second-degree felony), and one count of tampering with evidence (third-degree felony). Danielle Whalen, 37, of Broadway Street, Seaman, was indicted on one count of illegal assembly (third-degree felony).

    On Friday morning, the Pike County Commissioners appointed Charles Reader as the acting Sheriff of Pike County. Later that afternoon, Judge Randy Deering swore in Reader as Pike County Sheriff during a ceremony at the Pike County Court of Common Pleas. "I'm really excited to serve as Sheriff, and I feel that I've waited a long time," said Reader. "I've always felt that there was something more that I could offer, something more that I should be doing. When Sheriff Henderson stepped down and took another position, it opened a path for me."

  • Chillicothe man dies as result of crash

    A Chillicothe man died on Sunday as a result of injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash on Blain Highway on Saturday.According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the driver of the vehicle, Randy L. Sturgell, 48, of Chillicothe, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 5:55 p.m. on Sunday. The patrol reported that the crash occurred at approximately 8:55 p.m. on Saturday when a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Sturgell, was traveling northwest on Blain Highway, crossed the centerline, ran off the left side of the roadway, and struck a tree.
